MCL injuries

Duration

3 weeks

Aims

To eliminate swelling, full weight bearing on the injured knee, full ROM, injured leg should be almost as strong as the good one.

Instructions:

  • Continue with cold therapy and compression to eliminate swelling following exercises, and warm packs in between exercises.
  • The knee brace at this stage should be kept during outdoor activities and off the brace at home. A simple stablized knee support is more suitable at this stage to apply compression to the knee.
  • A physiotherapist can proceed with ultrasound and massage.
  • Range of motion exercises should continue along with isometric quadriceps exercises as follows;

 

P.S: It may be possible to begin to swim (not breaststroke!) or use stepper for aerobic fitness

 

MCL01

Quadriceps setting:

1-2 sets of 15-20 reps

 


MCL02

Heel prop:

5 minutes

 


MCL03

Heel slides:

With towel assist 1 set of 5 to 15 minutes

 


MCL04

Straight Leg Raises:

3 sets of 10 reps


MCL05

Short-Arc Lift:

3 sets of 10 reps


MCL06

Standing hamstring:

Curl 3 sets of 10 reps


MCL07

Standing toe-raises:

3 sets of 10 reps

 


MCL08

Hip abduction:

3 sets of 10 reps


MCL09

Partial squats:

3 sets 15 reps


MCL10

Wall slides:

3 sets of 15 reps


After this phase, we will re assess and begin another phase of rehabilitation…..
